Hidden Gems

Hello World!

Haha computer programming reference ;D

What is up guys??

Haha this might have to be my new signature pose...

I've been steadily getting busier...I've only had 3 days of class and already it feels like the work is piling up!
I'm really trying to stay ahead, and I know the course can't be thaaat insanely difficult, but some of the stuff I've heard is starting to scare me...

'_';

For example, my Calc 1 class's teacher started off the very first lecture by saying how difficult his class was! For half an hour!
I've taken Calc before too, but I can't help worrying...

Meh.

Plus, my lit class has me reading from the Torah.

THE TORAH.

I mean ya it's translated into old english but still...
It's a big gap from the last book I read
(Sookie Stackhouse volume #15 billion or something lol)

I guess that's why its called education, not entertainment.
-__-

Anyway, I've been feeling kinda depressed these last few days...
being away from home and beautiful GREEN Jersey, missing my close friends and all the busy, guarded, (and some creepy!) people in New York was a bit intimidating. :(

I also hadn't really made any close friends at school and the few people I had kinda gotten to know better didn't seem to really mesh with my personality :/

Plus, there was the academic pressure of succeeding at NYU and making the best out of the 60K my parents were paying...

In other words, life in the Big Apple was starting to get to me!

However, today, things got a bit better:
I met some really nice people!

MULTIPLE TIMES!!!
(as in I met many nice people at different points during the day)

They weren't all like Mother Teresa's or anything, and they certainly didn't all have the same personality or appearance, but they were just really warm and accepting to me!

It made me think what went differently today that I would 'hit the people jack pot' so many times in one day.

Was it...the clothes I was wearing?
Nope, my wardrobe is extremely limited and I've worn everything in it maany times haha.

Was it....the way I had done my makeup??
NOPE, my makeup was at various different stages when I met all these people.

Was it...the fact that I had brushed my teeth super well this morning??!!

NOPE NOPE NOPE!

What I think it was, was the way I had presented myself;
I showed my happy, open self to them, and they responded in kind!

Not to be corny or anything, but I basically treated them the way I would have wanted to be treated. :)

I was (hopefully) fun and pleasant to be around, and they did the same right back!!

Ahaha I guess this is probably super obvious and silly sounding to some some, and I have of course heard this before...
but I guess this was a bit of a wakeup call :)

I'm gonna try to remember to be this was more often

:D

Ya.

Well this is a bit awkward...what to say next, after such a life changing revaluation??! XD

Well I do need to shower so I guess I'll end with this lovely picture:

8 am

Hello there!

My roomie's beautiful forest tapestry. Excuse the bathrobe, I was studying.
I had my first college class today at 8 am! It turns out I have ALL 8am classes, monday-friday....

T_T

Godammit.
I am REEEALLY not a morning person but maybe this will help change that? Or I'll just be super tired in all my classes
jk not jk

Anyway, the actual class was ok. I got up at 5:30, showered, got ready and bummed around till 7 which is when the dining halls open. I had breakfast at Wienstien Hall (am I spelling that right)for the first time. They had actual fruit!! Not just crummy apples and bananas.

I had like two bowls of fruit it was so good :DD

As a side note, other things I've been eating recently...

MAPLE BACON CHOCOLATE. Need I say more? XD

Miso soup while studying is the beeest!

MISO >:D

Anyway, after breakfast I walked to my class and ended up waiting almost half an hour for the teacher to start. The class itself doesn't seem to be too hard but the atmosphere is very...tense...

AKA LOTS OF SUPER COMPETITIVE ASIANS

not to be racist or anything...
but still, it's kind of depressing. I don't mind competition and I know the real world is like that, but it does make me a little sad.
We're all here to learn peeps!
>:D

Anyway, the class went from 8-9:15 so I got back to my dorm at 9:30ish.

Since then I've been studying and messing around on the internet haha. I've got another class at 2 (Calc 1) and then after that I might go shopping for some bits and bobs with the sis!
Sounds like a decent day to me :)

Renewal!

Hey blogosphere! Whats up?? :D Wow I guess I totally abandoned this blog for a while; I got lazy. Sorry about that! Since my last post, lots of things have happened! I guess I'll make a list?

-Prom! It was nice :) good food, nice people, AND I fitted into my dress!
From L-R: My sis' date, sis, me, my date

-Prom weekend at Seaside. Basically all the seniors from my school rent houses at Seaside and have a good time ;)

At the beach
matching henna tattoos!

Being silly with friends/the sis

-Graduation. I reached the end of high school! I actually wasn't too sad since I knew I would hang out with the people I actually liked during summer break haha. Sorry if that sounds cold! It's not like I hated hs or anything, it was just...whatever. I guess I never got all that emotionally attached.

Aww the parents got us roses!

-ISRAEL!!This one deserves extra emphasis lol. Me, my sister and my dad spent about 2 weeks in Israel visiting all the major holy sites! I'm actually not religious but it was still pretty incredible to see the actual places where all these things 'happened'. (Btw sorry if those quotations marks offend anyone! I believe what I want to believe and you are free to do the same)I also learned a lot about the history and major events in Christianity, Judaism and Islam.

I'll probably put up a separate post some time later with more pics. My dad took hundreds! I didn't take that many with my phone but here's a few of the ones that were on it!

The Three Religions
Tel Aviv

Israel has so many beautiful beaches!

And such fresh, 'real' tasting food! I don't think I ate a single thing in Israel that wasn't delicious, even if it wasn't suited to my tastes!

Old Aqueduct

Wailing Wall

-Adirondacks & Catskills. After the Israel trip, the whole fam went on a short road trip up to the Adirondack Mountains in NY. It was super pretty and we did a bit of hiking.
We spent like 2 days doing that and then went ziplining in the Catskills on the way back to Jersey. It was so much fun! Very safe too, though it looked kinda scary. Had to practically drag my mom the first time since she kept wanting to back out haha.
It was very expensive (like $200 per person!) but it makes for a great family trip :)

                                                        I HEART YOU BERRY MUCH!

Lastly...

I STARTED COLLEGE!!!!
I'm now a freshman at New York University! Yay :)
I moved in on sunday and classes start this coming tuesday. In between is welcome week for freshmen. Basically there are a ton of events, free food and parties all week long. It's been pretty good; met a lot of people and they seem pretty chill in general. My roomies cool too and I think we'll get along just fine. All the socializing is taking a bit of a toll on me, who is used to people who totally get me and take zero effort to hang out with lol. I get the feeling I've been coming off as kinda awkward sometimes -__-; Oh well, hopefully as time goes on things will get better? Stay positive Ava!!

I don't have a good picture of the room yet since its not fully set up and pimped out but I will soon!

Well this has been a pretty crappy summary post but I just wanted to get the ball rolling again. Hopefully as I keep posting I'll convey a better idea of what my life has been like? If I keep posting that is haha :P

Ava out!
